Core Competencies
In many hospitals, everyone on the management staff is expected to exhibit the same set of core competencies. Performance evaluations often
focus on how well managers exhibit these competencies, which could include such traits as results orientation, personal accountability, flexibility,
goal achievement and interpersonal skills.
There are two problems with this approach. One, the evaluation of how well managers display these competencies is subjective and could be biased.
Two, competencies required for one job are different than those required for another.
We work with a reliable, integrated, and validated system for assessing personal competencies. Typically we start by benchmarking the job; then,
using a personal talent assessment, we’re able to determine a manager’s specific strengths and weaknesses and compare them with those
required for superior performance on the job. More specifically, we’re able to clearly identify an individual’s cognitive structure
or personal competencies.
The tool we use reports on a person’s natural abilities in over 80 areas, 23 of which are illustrated in the table below. The resulting
information provides a valuable foundation for personal development planning and performance evaluation.
Our system is backed up by a comprehensive
CD-based audio course and a course manual with guidance on real-life applications for specific development needs.
